Digital Shade Matching Technology

One of the hardest aspects of cosmetic dentistry is matching the shade of a single porcelain tooth to the natural teeth around it.

Tooth shade matching systems make this challenge one of the simplest procedures in all dentistry. Using either spectrophotometry or colorimetry, these tooth shade scanners capture hue, value, and chroma of teeth. Once captured, the information can be displayed graphically and either printed or transmitted to the dental laboratory where the data is used to create the perfect prosthesis.

Historically, determining the shade of a patient's natural tooth has presented many clinical challenges. Additionally, dentists have experienced difficulty when attempting to communicate the proper shade to the dental laboratory, since shade guides provided inconclusive results.
